partying with the knight school squad in lubbock is one of them

12:28:17 AM ballin01069: I worked on the production team for the show, and
Dustin's conditioning and the loss of his binder were big factors in losing the
spot to Tyler, though they wern't the whole issue. He would have had some
eligibility for the team, at least one year, because otherwise he would not
have been eligible to participate according to the rules of the show. A lot of
athletes go on to graduate degrees to get their full NCAA eligibility in, so
that was an option. But the fact that he played for Tech baseball was a key
issue, and Coach let him know that if he had a desire to move on to the next
level in baseball and get a shot in the minors to start up the path to the big
leagues, Knight promised to make the phone calls to get him a shot. It was
surprising to see a current NCAA athlete struggle so much in the workouts vs.
an intramural player, and Knight knew he had other options ahead of him.

Actually, Knight made a point of making sure all the players knew how much he
respected their efforts during the course of the show, and you didn't see that
a lot in the final cut. These guys were going to school full time, working
hours every night for the show, and studying after filming finished, usually
well after midnight, every night, for two weeks (same with the production
assistants, like myself). They were physically exhausted by the whole
experience, having never had to condition like that before, and you could see
the difference in the last episode, when the guys that got cut looked so much
better, simply because they had a few days to recover before competing with
Tyler and Dustin, who were on their last legs after two weeks of extremely
tough conditioning.
 I'm not sure if this applies in this situation...I
copied it from the NCAA Eligibility FAQ section.

"A Division I or III member institution on its campus or elsewhere, is not
permitted to conduct (or have conducted on its behalf) any physical activity
(e.g., practice session or test/tryout) at which one or more prospects reveal,
demonstrate or display their athletics abilities in any sport."

The players may have signed waivers or something but the rule is vague anyway.
